Two women injured in acid attacks

BAHAWALPUR: Two women were injured in acid attacks in separate incidents in Khanewal and Lodhran on Thursday.

In the first incident, a woman was attacked by her former husband for contracting a second marriage with another man after her divorce. Mumtaz Bibi had got married with one Aslam at Bhatta Colony in Khanewal city. At this, her ex-husband Shabbir Ahmed, along with his three accomplices, threw acid on Mumtaz in vengeance.

She suffered serious burns and Rescue 1122 shifted her to District Headquarters Hospital, Khanewal.

The City police arrested Shabbir while his three accomplices were on the run.

In the second incident, three persons, Elahi Bakhsh, Muhammad Amjad and Manzoor Mai, allegedly administered acid to a 23-year old ‘Z’ on the motive of enmity in the limits of Jalalpur Peerwala in Lodhran district. When her condition became serious, she was shifted to the THQ Hospital, Jalapur Pirwala. A case was registered against three suspects.

ABDUCTION: Four armed men allegedly abducted an 18-year-old girl near Sarghana Bagh in the limits of police station Mitroo in Vehari district today.

According to police, one Muhammad Mumtaz of Chak 63/WB, along with his two sisters, was going to Mitroo in his car. When he reached near Sarghana Bagh, four persons appeared on the road. They intercepted his car and kidnapped him at gunpoint. He and one of his sisters made their good escape from the scene.

Mumtaz lodged a case with Mitroo police.

ARREST: The Crime Control Department (CCD) Multan claimed to have arrested a wanted criminal in an injured condition after an encounter near the Multan Industrial Estate.

According to the CDD officials, the patrol police team signaled a motorcycle with three riders near the industrial estate to stop. The motorcyclists tried to escape but fell down.

They allegedly opened fire on the CDD team that started an encounter. After the shootout, one of the suspects, identified as Muhammad Usman, a resident of Kachi Abadi, Multan, was found in an injured condition and was shifted to hospital.

The CDD team claimed that Usman was wanted in several criminal cases. His condition in the hospital was stated to be serious. Usman’s two accomplices, who managed to flee, were booked in the case.

POLICE KIOSK: Vehari Police established a self-service kiosk of the Police Khidmat Markaz (PKM) at Vehari Gymkhana to bring essential police services closer to the public.

In a press release, DPO Vehari Muhammad Afzal said this innovative step would ensure convenient, queue-free access to services like character certificates, FIR copies, and vehicle verification.

He added that the kiosk offered a discreet, safe, and accessible option for women and the elderly to avail services independently without the need to visit a police station.

This is the second PKM kiosk in the city. Earlier, the DPO had opened the first-ever kiosk at local shopping malls.
