Workers for increase in EOBI pension
TOBA TEK SINGH: Pakistan Textile Workers Federation (PTWF) and Punjab Trade Unions Federation (PTUF) have regretted that the government announced no increase in the Employees Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) pension for the retired industrial workers in the recent budget.
Addressing a meeting on Wednesday in Faisalabad, the leaders of both organisations said that no increase in the EOBI pension for the industrial workers was announced in 2024.
They said the pension of the government employees has been increased, although the industrial workers deposit certain amount from their salaries with the EOBI.
They stated it was decided in the meeting of the EOBI governing body held in Marchin Karachi, that the workers’ minimum pension would be increased from Rs10,000 to Rs11,500, and a summary in this regard was sent to the prime minister’s office for approval.
They appealed to the PM to announce an increase in EOBI pension for industrial workers.
Those who addressed the meeting included Haji Abdul Jabbar, Maroof Khan, Sarwar Nadeem Manj, Sajjad Hussain Gardezi and Muhammad Imran.
PLAZA SEALED: The provincial excise and taxation (E&T) department on Wednesday sealed a business centre on Sheikhupura Road, Faisalabad for non-payment of tax.
As per officials, a team comprising E&T officers Maqsood Ahmad, Ms Zobia Javed and Abdul Momin sealed Misaqul Mall entrance and some shops.
An official says that the plaza management failed to pay an outstanding tax amount of more than Rs31.6 million to the department despite issuance of repeated notices.
