ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), in collaboration with the Islamabad Traffic Police on Wednesday initiated a comprehensive vehicle emission testing campaign across three key locations in Islamabad.

Testing was done across three different locations in I-9 Traffic Police Check Post, Tayyaba Steel Mills, and 7-Up Chowk, I-9 Industrial Area.

This crucial initiative aimed to curb air pollution and promote environmental responsibility, with the campaign set to continue throughout the year.

On its inaugural day, a total of 50 vehicles were tested. The results highlight a significant need for improved vehicle maintenance and adherence to emission standards.

Pak-EPA said that out of the vehicles inspected, 11 were issued challans (fines) due to smoke emission levels exceeding 70pc , while three vehicles were impounded for having critically high smoke levels, surpassing 80pc. Additionally, 20 vehicles received warnings as their smoke levels ranged between 40pc and 50pc. Only 16 vehicles successfully passed the emission test, demonstrating smoke levels within the acceptable range of 10pc to 40pc.

Pak-EPA said that this campaign reflected commitment to ensuring cleaner air for the residents of Islamabad and will play a vital role in monitoring and regulating vehicle emissions to achieve a healthier urban environment.
