Bajaur’s bus terminal lacks basic facilities

BAJAUR: The main bus terminal in Bajaur lacks basic amenities, causing inconvenience to transporters and commuters. During a visit to the Jinnah Bus Terminal located on the main Khar-Inayat Kallay Road in Shandi area, transporters and commuters told Dawn that the facility lacked even the most basic amenities such as drinking water, washrooms and waiting areas.

They said a restaurant, a hotel and a mosque at the bus terminal had been lying non-functional since 2010, when the facility reopened after the war on terror, nearly six years after its inauguration in 2004.

They noted that water supply to the terminal had also long been disrupted. They said lack of water forced the closure of mosque and restaurant at the bus station.

Wahid Khan, a stallholder at the bus station for over a decade, said the terminal faced water shortage since its inception.

BAN IMPOSED: The district administration on Wednesday banned the sale and use of firecrackers, toy guns, display of weapons, festive firing, and swimming and boating in dams and rivers for a month by placing Section 144.

“Public is hereby informed that the district administration, in line with the directives of deputy commissioner Shahid Ali Khan, has imposed a one-month ban on several activities,” according to a statement.
