Two ‘fleeing’ suspects killed during encounter

NAROWAL: Two suspects who were in police custody were killed during an alleged encounter in Sialkot on Tuesday.

Sialkot District Police Officer Faisal Shahzad told Dawn the suspects, Saqlain Shah and Muhammad Azim, were in the custody of the CCD. They were being taken somewhere in connection with the investigation when their unidentified accomplices attacked the police team and got them released.

The Crime Control Department (CCD) received the information that the fleeing suspects were near village Jasirwala. The CCD Daska team also reached there and located the suspects who opened fire as soon as they saw the police.

The police team also retaliated. When guns went silent, the police found Saqlain and Azim critically injured. Rescue 1122 was called but both the suspects had died before the rescuers arrived. The police claimed that both the suspects were killed by the firing of their accomplices.

CCD Sub-Inspector Shafqat Ali CCD said 106 cases of murder, attempted murder and robbery were registered against both the deceased with various police stations. He added that the suspects had tortured and sexually assaulted families during robbery incidents. He said before their death, the suspects had identified two of the four escapees as Aryan Iqbal and Ali Raza.

WOMAN KILLED: A speeding dumper ran over and killed a woman and injured five others in Sheikhupura on Tuesday.

Rescue 1122 said the control room received a call about the accident on Sheikhupura-Faisalabad Road near Kharianwala stop.

Rescuers arrived at the scene and found 70-year-old Khurshid Bibi, Razia Bibi (38), Muhammad Akram (72) , Zahra Bibi (65) , Yasmin Bibi (35) and Ashiq Ali (7) injured. Khurshid Bibi died soon at the scene, while other injured people were shifted to the Sheikhupura District Headquarters Hospital.

The body of Khurshid was handed over to the local police. According to hospital sources, the condition of two injured people was critical.
