DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Dera and motorway police have decided to set up a joint unit to ensure security and safety of passengers travelling on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Motorway.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here with Dera region police officer Syed Ashfaq Anwar in the chair.

The meeting was convened on the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, and was attended by Dera district police officer Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmed, SP motorway police Atiqueur Rehman, SP Paharpur, and other senior officials.

The RPO Dera emphasised that it was a top priority of the police to ensure the security of the CPEC Motorway and the safety of travellers.

He was of the view that all available resources should be utilised to fulfill the responsibility.

As part of efforts, it was decided that a joint unit comprising motorway and district police officials would be formed to effectively respond to any emergency situation in a timely manner.

Moreover, repair work would be initiated on the fencing along both sides of the motorway to prevent potential accidents and improve overall security. The participants reiterated to make the CPEC Motorway fully secure and ensure uninterrupted traffic flow at all times.

CLASH CLAIMS LIFE: A clash between two groups erupted in the Hayatullah neighbourhood on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a bystander.

The deceased was identified as Nazir Ahmed, a resident of Mohalla Fazal Rehman.

According to eyewitnesses, Nazir Ahmed had no direct involvement in the conflict. In fact, he was reportedly trying to mediate between the two opposing groups when he was caught in the crossfire. He sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Rescue 1122 responded swiftly to the emergency call, arriving at the scene promptly and transferring the body to the nearest hospital. Local police reached the area shortly after the incident, cordoning off the scene and initiating an investigation. Initial reports suggest the clash may have stemmed from an old enmity between the two groups. However, further inquiry is underway.
