SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Two separate improvised explosive devices struck the Shakai area of Lower South Waziristan on Saturday, leaving one civilian dead and a Frontier Corps soldier injured, officials said.

District police officer Khankhel said that the first explosion occurred near the Sarapal area, targeting a vehicle belonging to the Bomb Disposal Squad. The second blast took place near the basic health unit along the Shakai Bypass, he added.

Police sources said that the civilian casualty was identified as Shamrooz Khan, a private medical representative, who was passing by the area at the time of the explosion. He died on the spot, while an FC official was injured.

The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana, while the injured FC soldier was taken to Scouts Hospital Wana.

Sources said IEDs were planted by terrorists on Friday to target security forces.

Following the blasts, security forces and police cordoned off the areas and launched an investigation. Bomb disposal experts and other relevant units also arrived at the scenes to assess the situation.
