KARACHI: College principal, son shot, wounded
KARACHI, Feb 6: A college principal and his son were injured when unknown assailants opened fire at them in Shah Faisal Colony on Wednesday morning.
Police said that the principal of the Superior Science College, Professor Syed Azhar Husain Zaidi, aged 58, and his son Syed Ashar Husain, aged 26, were intercepted at the college gate by two armed men who sprayed their vehicle (W-4272) with bullets and escaped.
They were rushed to the JPMC where they were provided initial treatment and taken for surgery.
The hospital sources said that Syed Azhar Husain received three bullets, one in the cheek which pierced through his face, second in his back and third in the leg. The victim was operated upon and stated to be in a stable condition, on Wednesday evening.
Syed Ashar Husain received a single bullet. He was also operated upon and was out of danger, the hospital sources said.
Police said that the victims had left their Jaffar-i-Tayyar Society residence and arrived at the college through Colony Gate.
Some eyewitnesses said that both the assailants were of tall height and clean-shaven, they had been waiting at the spot on a motorcycle
Police said that sectarianism could not be ruled out as a possible motive behind the attack, but they were investigating the matter and it was premature to ascertain the motive immediately.
Meanwhile the College Principals Association in a statment expressed shock over the incident.
The Rabita committee of the Muttahida Quami Movement in a statment condemned the incident and termed it a conspiracy to create sectarian unrest in the city.
DIES: Two children died after consuming some poisonous substance in Chakiwara on Wednesday.
Police said that Mujahid, aged 12, and his sister Zahida, aged 6, died after consuming some poisonous substance.
However police could not immediately ascertain how both the children consumed the poisonous substance.
Police, quoting the family sources, said that the two children had gone out of the house for a while. They later returned home and started plying, after a while they fainted.
The two children were rushed to the Civil Hospital where they were pronounced dead by the medicolegal officer.
A duty officer of the Chakiwara police station said that the victims might have bought some edible item from a vendor, which proved poisonous.
Till the filing of this report, the children’s parents had not allowed the postmortem examination.
KILLED: A young man was killed by unknown assailants in Nazimabad on Wednesday.
Police said that body of Mohammad Sarfraz, aged 22, was found near the Gujjar Nallah. The victim’s throat was slit through a sharp edge weapon, and later his body was dumped.
He was a tailor master and resident of Nazimabad No.2. His body was sent to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination, police added.
