Irsa-Nespak team starts probe into ‘water theft’

SUKKUR: A team comprising high officials of the Indus River System Authority (Irsa)) and National Engineering Service Pakistan (Nespak) visited Guddu and Sukkur barrages on Monday to begin probe into Sindh’s allegations of water theft between Taunsa and Guddu barrages.

Official sources said that the team comprising Irsa Punjab Member Amjad Saeed, Irsa Balochistan Member Abdul Hameed Mengal and Nespak consultant Junaid Ahmed measured water levels and checked telemetry systems at Guddu and Sukkur barrages.

The Sindh government had lodged an objection about non-arrival of water which had been released from Punjab in Sindh. On May 15th, 81,000 cusecs had been released from Taunsa Barrage which had not reached Sindh, said the sources.
