Relocation of judicial complex: Jhang lawyers’ strike enters second month
TOBA TEK SINGH: The Jhang District Bar Association’s (DBA’s) strike against the relocation of the judicial complex outside the city has entered its second month.
DBA members are protesting the move to shift the judicial complex to a remote area far from the city and have been boycotting courts, causing severe difficulties for litigants in pursuing their cases.
Jhang DBA President Farid Nawaz Naul told reporters on Wednesday that the DBA had opposed the decision to shift the courts to the proposed judicial complex outside the city.
He clarified that the DBA has no objection to relocating all courts to a new site, provided it is under a fully completed judicial tower, but expressed serious reservations about moving to an incomplete facility. He vowed to continue their protest until their demands were met. However, instead of seven days a week, the strike will now be observed two days a week, on Friday and Saturday.
OMBUDSPERSON: The adviser to the Punjab ombudsman in Jhang issued notices on Wednesday to the district health authority’s CEO and the secretary of the population and health department, directing them to submit para-wise replies in response to a complaint alleging misappropriation of public funds.
The proceedings have been scheduled for May 15. The complaint is about the alleged misuse of public funds. A health department official said all payments were processed according to official procedures by the officials concerned and that the adviser’s orders would be followed.
FDA:The Faisalabad Development Authority administration has decided to sell 538 residential and commercial plots in various areas through a public auction.
The auction will be held on May 14 for 261 one-kanal plots, 107 plots of 10 marla, 148 commercial plots, four plots designated for marquees/hospitals and petrol pumps, eight utility site plots, and 10 additional one-kanal plots.
WORKSHOP: A training workshop titled ‘Enhancing Animal Productivity through Heat Sponge Technology’ was held in collaboration with the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB) for veterinary experts and field workers in Faisalabad on Wednesday.
Livestock Director Dr Syed Nadeem Badar saidthe development of the livestock sector is indispensable to meet the nutritional needs of Pakistan’s growing population.
He emphasised that the responsibility of bringing the innovations of research institutions to the practical level lies with veterinary doctors and field workers who are playing an effective role in this mission. He appreciated the efforts of NIAB and said that his team will enlighten the farmers about the usefulness of this technology.
LIFE TERM: The Faisalabad additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday sentenced a rape accused to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs100,000.
According to the prosecution, Shan Masih was arrested by Dijkot police in 2022 for raping a woman.
ENCOUNTER: A robber was killed during an encounter with the Gojra Sadar police on Wednesday.
Police said three people riding a motorcycle, who had allegedly looted passengers near Chak 417-JB, were intercepted by police but opened fire. Police retaliated, and when the firing stopped, one suspect was found dead while the others escaped.
The deceased was identified as Adnan of Toba Chak 312-GB.
Police said he was killed by bullets fired by his accomplices and that he was wanted in multiple robbery cases across different districts.
DEMO: Christians staged a protest in the Ghulam Muhammad Abad area after 19-year-old Gulfam Maseeh was shot dead by two persons.
The protesters demanded registration of a murder case and the arrest of the suspect.
They attempted to take the body to the CPO office on a tractor-trolley but were stopped by police.
Later, the police registered a case against Ijaz and Shahzad, who allegedly shot the youth on Canal Road following a quarrel after their motorcycles collided. The protest was called off following the FIR registration.
