Mob lynches ‘robber’, torches body in New Karachi

KARACHI: A suspected robber was lynched by an angry mob, which also set the body on fire, after he shot and wounded two brothers during a robbery in New Karachi on Friday afternoon, police said.

New Karachi Industrial Area SHO Mohammed Nawaz Gondal told Dawn that two suspects had attempted to loot a general store in Sector-11-G. Two shopkeeper brothers, Mohammed Faisal and Mohammed Faizan, put up resistance but the robbers opened fire and wounded them.

As the suspects attempted to flee, area people captured one of them and subjected him to a severe beating with hard and blunt objects, leading to his death on the spot.

The police said that some charged youth also torched the body.

The officer said the suspect was identified as Mohammed Akram, who originally hailed from Pishin. He had a past criminal record.

The officer added that the condition of the injured brothers, who were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, was out of danger as they had sustained bullet wounds to their legs.

Police Surgeon Dr Summaiyah Syed told Dawn that the alleged robber had sustained multiple injuries to the head, face, and upper torso, and that his body had also been burnt.

She added that Faizan had sustained multiple firearm wounds to his legs while Faisal had received a single bullet wound.
