From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1975: Fifty Years Ago: Islamic laws

RAWALPINDI: The Federal Minister for Reli­gious Affairs, Maulana Kausar Niazi today [April 5] urged the Council of Islamic Ideology to fulfil as early as possible its important obligation to bring all existing laws in the country in conformity with Quran and Sunnah. The present Government, he assured, was sincere and determined to see that the country is governed under Islamic laws and will extend all possible assistance to the Council to carry out its heavy responsibility. Maulana Niazi was addressing the first meeting of the Council of Islamic Ideology after it was brought under the administrative control of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. … The Minister said the Council has been entrusted with the important duty of translating into reality the ideology which reflected the aspiration of the people in the independence movement for Pakistan.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Taipei,] Marshal Chiang Kai-shek, 87, died of long illness at home last night, his physician announced today [April 5]. Chiang had not appeared in public for nearly three years. … Informed sources said he had been in wheel chair in the past two years.
