KARACHI: As many as 87 more profiteers were fined and four others arrested as the city administration continued its anti-profiteering drive on Thursday.

Officials said that the city administration officers supervised the sale of essential commodities at 181 different locations in the metropolis to ensure “effective” price control.

They added that Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi had directed the deputy commissioners to ensure the presence of officials at randomly selected places during the sale of essential commodities.

As per details, 87 profiteers were fined Rs514,000 and four shopkeepers were arrested.

During the past 26 days of Ramazan, over 4,200 profiteers have been fined, 154 shopkeepers arrested and 157 shops sealed. During this period, the city administration officers “ensured the sale of food items at official prices” on 3,851 locations by supervising sales.
