PESHAWAR: A Jamaat-i-Islami leader and former nazim was killed by unknown persons in the jurisdiction of Chamkani police station here on Monday.

The police said Haji Hameed Gul was killed when he was on his way to attend a jirga along with his friend, Shahid, in Budhni area on Sunday. They added Shahid was injured in the attack and was shifted to a hospital.

The police said that the motive behind the killing was still unknown. However, a case was registered.
