KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has ordered the transport department to reclaim its lands encroached by various entities across the province.
Chairing a high-level meeting here on Tuesday, he described the occupation of transport department land by government agencies as regrettable and reiterated that such actions are deplorable.
He instructed the authorities to remove all encroachments on their land and submit a report.
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, managing director of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kamal Dayo, project director of the Yellow Line Zameer Abbasi and others.
Yellow Line progress reviewed
The minister also reviewed the progress of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Yellow Line project.
He reiterated that the government was committed to removing all obstacles to the timely completion of the Yellow Line project, as it will reduce pressure on Karachi’s public transport system and provide convenience to commuters.
The meeting discussed various technical and administrative challenges to the Yellow Line project, while also reviewing the progress of a bridge and depot construction.
He emphasised that the Yellow Line is a major public transport project that will provide modern and affordable travel facilities to city residents. He instructed all concerned parties to expedite construction so the project could be completed quickly. The project director briefed the meeting in detail about the latest status of Yellow Line. He reported that construction work was progressing rapidly and provided an update on relocation of utility lines, which are being resolved as quickly as possible.
Meeting with spokespersons
Mr Memon also chaired a meeting of the spokespersons for the Sindh government.
He emphasised that the Sindh government wanted its spokespersons to present the performance of every department to the public.
The meeting held detailed deliberations about the promotion of the major Sindh government initiatives, including Peoples Housing Scheme, Peoples Bus Service, autism centres and others.
