Sindh to operationalise vehicle inspection centres within a week: Sharjeel

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to activate centres for motor vehicles inspection (MVI) across Sindh within a week.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed the transport department to make MVI mandatory for all vehicles entering Sindh through Sukkur.

Chairing a high-level meeting, he stated that decisive measures were being taken to ensure vehicle fitness and that tough decisions were necessary to improve the transport sector and effectively control traffic issues.

He announced that four MVI centres are being established in Karachi — two in Gulbai, one in Banaras and one in Korangi.

Additionally, one MVI centre each is being set up in Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and Shaheed Benazirabad.

Mr Memon stated that the initiative aimed to take uniform action against substandard vehicles and improve the traffic system across the province. He directed officials to ensure transparency in the vehicle inspection process while minimising inconvenience to citizens.

He further stated that MVI will be mandatory for vehicles entering Sindh via Sukkur to prevent substandard vehicles from other provinces.

He added that the Sindh government was committed to ensuring that only roadworthy vehicles operate on the roads, aiming not only to prevent accidents but also to reduce environmental pollution.

The government is also considering stricter measures to enhance the effectiveness of actions against defective and substandard vehicles, he said. The meeting also reviewed motor vehicle inspection fees for both commercial and non-commercial vehicles.
