LHC quashes FIR filed under repealed law

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has ordered cancellation of an FIR registered by Sialkot police under a repealed law – The Protection of Parents Ordinance 2021.

Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan issued the order on a petition of Naseer Ahmad, seeking pre-arrest bail in a case lodged under section 3 of the ordinance by Kotali police station, Sialkot.

At the outset of the hearing, the judge noted that FIR was registered under a law which was originally promulgated in 2021 and finally elapsed in 2022 as it was not tabled in the parliament.

“So, in that eventuality, SHO concerned is directed to get the FIR cancelled by submitting a cancellation report before the learned area magistrate in this regard,” the judge said in his order.

With this direction, the judge disposed of the bail petition.
