KARACHI: As many as 181 undergraduate and three postgraduate students of the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (IVS) were awarded their degrees at the 31st convocation.

According to a press release, this year marks the institution’s largest graduating batch as degrees were awarded to 19 students in Architecture, 23 in Interior Design, 24 in Fine Art, 61 in Communication Design, 40 in Textile Design and 14 in Fashion Design.

Speaking on the occasion, art historian and author Fakhir Syed Aijazuddin emphasised the significance of embracing a multifaceted approach to life and career.

Reflecting on his journey from a chartered accountant to an art historian, he highlighted how duality fostered creativity and humanity. Drawing from personal anecdotes, including his work cataloguing miniature paintings at the Lahore Museum, Mr Aijazuddin encouraged graduates to value resilience, seize opportunities, and remain steadfast amidst challenges.

He also lauded the institution for its commitment to excellence, recalling the meticulous relocation of the Nusserwanjee building as a testament to preserving heritage.

The ceremony concluded with insightful remarks from Zubyr Soomro, the chairman of the Board of Governors.

Earlier, Dean and Executive Director Dr Faiza Mushtaq welcomed the distinguished guests including proud families of the graduating class.
