LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the police officers to bring down crime rate in every district, especially of the road robberies.

Chairing a meeting of the police officers on Thursday, she ordered them to take prompt measures to stop road robberies in the province.

She also reviewed the proposed key performance indicators for evaluating performance of the police officers. She asked them to undertake necessary measures to ensure safe journey on roads besides launching a crackdown to eliminate ‘criminal hotspots’ across Punjab.

Directing the officers to eradicate robbery incidents to ensure protection of traders and shopkeepers, she said: “Dacoity and other crimes on roads of small and big cities are unacceptable under any circumstances. Make every road and street safe and undertake strict action against the criminals. Relevant police officers will be held responsible if any crime incident occurs in their jurisdiction.

She stressed that the crimes against children and women must also be stopped.

IGP Dr Usman Anwar, additional IGP and other relevant officers attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, on the International Day Commemorating Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Faith, the CM said, “There is no religion in the world that encourages violence against people of different faiths. Inflicting torture and violence on the basis of religion and beliefs is a reprehensible act.”

She said the Muslims were targeted on the basis of religion as growing Islamophobia was its prime example.
