Educational institutes hold an array of I-Day events
LAHORE: The 77th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with enthusiasm across educational institutions in the province.
Various universities and colleges organised flag-hoisting and tree plantation ceremonies to mark the occasion.
These ceremonies’ emphasis on tree plantation reflected the ongoing efforts to combat climate change, while it also focused on honouring the sacrifices made for the country’s independence 77 years ago.
At Punjab University (PU), VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood highlighted the significance of freedom during a ceremony held outside the administration block.The ceremony also honoured students who excelled in the Asian Rowing Championship, celebrating their achievements with a flag-hoisting and the symbolic release of pigeons.
Following the ceremony, Dr. Mahmood inaugurated an olive grove at the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology as part of a tree plantation drive.
Kinnaird College for Women organised a plantation drive followed by a flag-hoisting ceremony.
Principal Prof Dr Iram Anjum led the initiative, encouraging faculty and staff to participate in the Prime Minister’s Green Youth Movement, contributing to environmental conservation efforts on this special occasion.
Government College University (GCU) Lahore also marked Independence Day with a lively celebration featuring national songs, speeches, and an “Azadi Mushaira” session.The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore held a grand flag-hoisting ceremony, where VC Prof Dr Nasir Hayat served as the chief guest.
The university campus was adorned with festive decorations, and the event saw active participation from students and their families. Certificates were awarded to outstanding students, and the ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting and tree-planting event.
At the University of Education, VC Prof Dr Muhammad Alam Saeed led the flag-hoisting ceremony and inaugurated a special tree-planting campaign.
Students from China participated in the celebrations, symbolising the growing friendship between the two nations.The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore also celebrated Independence Day with Quran recitations, flag-hoisting, and special prayers for the country’s martyrs.
Similar ceremonies were held across other UVAS campuses, including Ravi Campus Pattoki and CVAS Jhang.
The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) held its central Independence Day ceremony at the historic Shadi Lal Building in Lahore.
Chairman Sajid Khokhar hoisted the flag and cut the celebratory cake alongside students.
At the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), Managing Director Shahid Farid led the Independence Day celebrations at the organisation’s head office in Lahore.
The University of Okara (UO) marked the day with a flag-hoisting ceremony at Okarvian Square, followed by a march-past, tree plantation and a seminar.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Wajid urged students to embrace the philosophy of Allama Iqbal and commended the role of the armed forces in defending the nation.
