Gepco fails to reinstall fallen transformer

NAROWAL: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) could not restore power supply to Alipur Syedan village on Narowal-Pasrur Road from the transformer that fell due to a windstorm that lashed the city areas seven days ago.

Citizens are facing a great deal of inconvenience due to non-availability of power and electricity poles and transformers lying on the road.

On June 5, strong winds and a storm caused electricity poles, transformers, walls, and billboards to collapse in and around Narowal.

In Alipur Syedan village, a transformer and an electricity pole fell on Narowal-Pasrur Road, halting traffic.

Power supply to Alipur Syedan yet to be restored

Local resident Pir Syed Mahfooz Hussain Shirazi told Dawn that multiple complaints have been lodged with Gepco officials.

Despite visits from Gepco staff, no progress has been made in restoring the power system.

Residents Kabir Ahmad and Muhammad Sultan said citizens, risking their lives, have moved the fallen pole and wires to the side to clear the road for traffic.

They also claimed that Gepco employees are allegedly demanding money to restore the electricity supply.

Attempts were made to contact the Gepco executive engineer after seven days of non-restoration of electricity, but no response was received.

Citizens have strongly protested against the incompetence of Gepco staff and demanded that the prime minister take notice of the situation.
