BAJAUR: The residents have demanded of the Bajaur district administration to revise the public transport fares on both intra and inter-district routes after the significant decrease in the prices of petroleum products.
Talking to Dawn, people from different walks of life, including traders, political and social activists and government employees, said prices of diesel and petrol had witnessed a reasonable decrease since the formation of the PML-N-led government at the centre in March this year.
However, they claimed that the people of Bajaur couldn’t see any relief from the cut in the prices of petroleum products as the local authorities failed to revise the fares.
Zahoor Khan, a trader of Sadiqabad Bazaar, told Dawn that despite reduction in oil prices, public transport fares remained unchanged in Bajaur.
Usman Khan, a social activist, asked the authorities to revise the fares of public transport after the prices of petroleum products witnessed continued decline during the last three months.
Shahid Khan, another social activist, said public transport fares were unchanged despite the fact that prices of petroleum products had witnessed up to Rs40 per litre cut since March.
The residents asked the district administration to revise downward the fares to provide the people with some relief amid rising inflation.
Meanwhile, an official of the district administration said a meeting of the representatives of the transporters would be called on Wednesday to revise the transport fares.
ROAD REPAIR: Rehabilitation work on a two-and-a-half-kilometre stretch or road between a bus terminal and Khar Bazaar has been launched, according to a statement issued here the other day.
The statement said deputy commissioner Mohammad Anwarul Haq directed the officials of the relevant department to execute the scheme at the earliest.
It said the road had been in poor condition since 2007.
The statement said that rehabilitation work on the road would be completed in the shortest possible time.
