CULTURE OF CHEATING: The phenomenon of cheating in examinations is highly prevalent in the country, undermining the integrity of the education system and hurting meritocracy. The rampant use of unfair means during examinations compromises the quality of education and perpetuates a culture of dishonesty and mediocrity. The authorities concerned should take stringent actions to eradicate the menace.

ACCOMMODATION ISSUES: Quetta continues to have a beehive effect as students flood the provincial capital for getting higher education. Hundreds of thousands of students move to Quetta to pursue their educational dreams. However, the city appears to have turned into a hard place for students when it comes to the matter of accommodation. The rent of a single room is as high as Rs20,000 per month. The provincial government should have a strategy in place to regulate rental accommodation. This will ease the woes of the students.

CELEBRATING SKILLS: This is with reference to the editorial ‘Plugging the gap’ (May 6). When I was working on a project related to the International Nurses Day, a male colleague asked me to pick ‘pretty’ nurses for the purpose of project photography. I told him that we were celebrating skills, not selling women. The ‘suggestion’, in essence, was a reminder of how our society portrays women, and, instead of celebrating the noble work the nurses preform, we turn our gaze towards their prettiness. What a pity.

EDUCATION WOES: With the education system crumbling, access to quality education is merely a dream for most students in rural areas. As promised recently by the government, the budget for education is likely to be enhanced. The will of the government is the key to improving the national education system.
