Kagh Lusht festival concludes in Upper Chitral

CHITRAL: The four-day Kagh Lusht festival concluded in Upper Chitral district here on Sunday with tens of thousands of local people as well as tourists, including foreigners, attending the event.

The acting chairman of Kagh Lusht festival committee told Dawn that about 1,200 youth took part in different games, including many folk games. Local handicrafts were also put on display, attracting attention of visitors.

He said due to the inclement weather for last one week, the matches of polo could not be held.

The football trophy was clinched by Bronze Peshawar football club, who defeated Booni. Volleyball final was won by Headquarter Booni, who defeated Mroi team, while marathon race was won by Anees.

KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi was the chief guest on the occasion.

She said the spring festival had a long history spanning over thousands of years, while in the present scenario, it was significant to promote tourism by attracting tourists to the area.

She promised every possible effort and help on the part of the provincial government to hold the event in a befitting manner.

Shields and prizes to the winning teams and players were given away by Upper Chitral deputy commissioner Irfanuddin, Lower Chitral DC Mohammad Imran Khan and DPO Upper Chitral Mohammad Ateeq Shah.
