Sherpao demands steps to rein in inflation

KOHAT: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said the coalition government at the centre is under tremendous pressure due to economic and political uncertainty.

He expressed these views after offering Fateha at the death of the brother of party’s central deputy secretary general Mehmoodul Islam, and mother of a local journalist.

Mr Sherpao said the KP government should not hurl threats of suspending electricity supply to Punjab.

He stressed that the establishment, judiciary and politicians had to sit together for finding a lasting solution to the grueling inflation, which had crushed the poor.

Mr Sherpao said political parties should accept the mandate of each other as a first step towards confidence-building measures to bring stability to the country.

He emphasised that IMF bailouts were not the permanent solution to the country’s economy.

COMPENSATION SOUGHT: Chairman of Afghan Refugee Camp 5 Abdul Reham Khadim has appealed to the UNHCR to compensate hundreds of people whose houses collapsed in the camp during the recent heavy rains.

In a statement on Sunday, he said roofs of most of mud houses caved in, and the inmates were accommodated in tents.

Reham Khadim said the poor families didn’t have the money to rebuild their houses, and urged the UNHCR to send teams for assessing the losses for payment of compensation to the rain-hit people.
