KARACHI: The Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) said on Sunday that its campuses rema­ined safe and secure for all students, faculty and staff.

In a statement, a varsity spokesperson said that a clash between workers of the Peoples Students Federation (PSF) and Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) on Saturday was not taken place on its campus.

On Saturday, eight students were injured in the clash between two groups of students. The police said that the clash took place within the premises of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

On Sunday, the police increased patrolling in and around the JPMC and said that the law enforcement agency was going to set up a picket at the Physiotherapy College and Food Court area.

“JSMU has a dedicated security department that ensures a politics-free and peaceful atmosphere, allowing thousands of students to attend classes daily, without any disruptions,” the spokesperson said, adding: “We are committed to providing a conducive learning environment, and we will continue to uphold our values of academic excellence, inclusivity, and respect for all individuals.”
