Surplus energy

THIS is with reference to the letter ‘Optimising the use of surplus power’ (April 21) by a member of a prominent power company, which highlighted the pressing issue of capacity charges of around Rs2 trillion annually incurred by consumers due to inefficient power consumption practices for the energy not used. Moreover, the letter also articulated a comprehensive plan for optimising power usage, thus mitigating the financial burden on consumers, and fostering sustainability in our energy ecosystem.

As a concerned citizen as well as a stakeholder in the nation’s progress, I strongly urge those at the helm of national affairs to give due consideration to the insights provided in the said letter. The suggestions not only align with the goals of cost-effectiveness and environmental responsibility, but also hold the potential to alleviate the financial strain on households and businesses.

As things stand currently, considering the growing concerns surrounding energy affordability and sustainability, I believe it is imperative for the relevant ministry to take proactive measures in addressing this issue.

By promoting sustainable and effective initiatives that not only encourage efficient power consumption, but also discourage wasteful practices, we can pave the way for a more resilient and equitable energy future, which the country needs direly.
