SOUTHERN PUNJAB ISSUES

SOUTHERN PUNJAB ISSUES: The southern region of Punjab, constituting 32 per cent of the province’s population and covering 45pc of its land area, has remained deprived of many basic facilities. Life in southern Punjab is marked by poverty, illiteracy, water and healthcare issues. Successive governments have failed to bring prosperity to the region and its people. All that has come their way is a long list of promises. There is no comparison between southern Punjab and other regions of the province in terms of infrastructural developments and literacy rates. Candidates from southern Punjab face a tough time while competing with candidates from other regions. The government should introduce massive reforms for the neglected region.

WATER WASTAGE: Despite being a precious resource, water is routinely wasted as one can see water standing on city roads in various areas. The sight of water gushing out of burst pipes or leaking valves, forming puddles and streams along the roads, is a disturbing sight because water conservation is of paramount importance. Karachi, like many other cities, is facing the many challenges that have been popped up by the climate change phenomenon, and every drop of water wasted on the streets contributes to the strain on the city’s already limited water resources. It is imperative for the relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the issue.

STREETLIGHTS IN LARKANA: The main road in Larkana from Rice Canal towards Chandka Medical College and Sachal Colony remains in darkness after sunset as there is not a single streetlight on the road. The absence of streetlights causes massive inconvenience to the people as, owing to the worsening law and order situation, they are forced to take a longer route for safety reasons. The district administration needs to look into the matter immediately and install streetlights on all the city roads.
