‘No pressure’, JI rejects PTI leader’s claim

LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) acting emir Liaqat Baloch has rejected PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s claim that the JI was about to enter into an electoral alliance with the PTI after the Feb 8 election but stepped back under some ‘pressure’.

Gohar told the Geo News on Thursday that the JI leaders did not attend a planned meeting that was to take place between him, Liaquat Baloch and other leaders of both the parties as they were “under pressure”.

Baloch said on Friday his party was not under any `pressure’ with regards to talks with PTI following the general elections. He said the JI wanted the proposed arrangement throughout the country but the PTI was interested in KP only.

Addressing a press conference at Mansoorah, he urged the chief justice to take notice of the judges letter himself instead of entrusting responsibility to someone else and the decision to establish a commission under a retired judge on the matter was like putting it in limbo. He expressed concerns at the increasing incidents of terrorism in the country and the suicide attack on the Chinese engineers.
