WFP says to ‘surge’ food aid into Gaza or there will be starvation
The choice is clear, either “surge” humanitarian relief into Gaza or there will be starvation, the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said, Al Jazeera reports.
WFP warned in a post on social media that famine is “imminent” in the north of the Gaza Strip, and malnutrition among children is already “soaring”.
“The is nowhere else in the world where so many people face imminent famine,” WFP’s Palestine country director Matthew Hollingworth said.
Gaza City is the “epicentre of the crisis”, he said. Only 11 convoys of WFP food aid have reached the north of the Palestinian territory since the start of this year, the UN agency said.
