A substandard resort

I HAVE been visiting Keenjhar Lake for the last two years now owing to different reasons. I had often heard that the resort at the site that is managed by the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) was a worthy facility that would make an overnight stay comfortable and relaxing. Recently, when I went to the Keenjhar Lake with my family, I decided to stay at the STDC resort, which turned out to be a decision I seriously regret.

Truly, the whole experience was rather disappointing because of the pathetic condition of the resort, which reflected the non-serious attitude and an entrenched sense of carelessness on the part of the management.

Primarily, being a government-operated entity, the STDC should urgently introduce subsidised tariffs on the residential huts because the current Rs10,120 per night charge is way too exorbitant in the light of facilities available. Besides, there are currently extra charges on additional bedding.

Loadshedding was a huge problem as there was no alternative arrangement in place even though one could see solar panels atop every hut. A number of stray dogs were freely roaming around park beside the huts and the sitting area due to which we were unable to spend quality time with our children in the open.

However, the only good thing was the restaurant at the site, whose services, ambiance and quality of food were up to the mark.

To ameliorate the managment of STDC, the authorities concerned should take immediate notice of the matter and take steps to address the prevailing issues so that the spot may regain its lost glory. Besides, there is a need to put efforts to beef up marketing strategies that may promote this soulful tourist spot.
