Two buried alive as sand mine caves in

TAXILA: Two labourers buried alive when a sand mine caved in during excavation in Lawrencepur near Attock on Friday, police and rescue sources said.

Sources said Arsalan, 20, and Touqeer, 24, were working on an excavator in a sand mine when all of sudden it caved in and they buried along with the heavy machinery under the sand mine.

Later Rescue 1122 traced the bodies and shifted them to district headquarters hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, in the absence of safety protocols, the lives of scores of laborers in the sand mines area are at stake. Attock police have registered a case and launched further investigation.

Oil tanker overturns

An oil tanker overturned, spilling crude oil on Rawalpindi-Kohat road near Pindigheb and disrupted traffic for several hours after it met with an accident on Friday.

According to Rescue-1122 sources, an oil tanker was carrying 52,000 litre crude oil from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to an oil refinery at Khoar and it overturned near Sitra Hilal chowk when its driver lost control while overtaking another vehicle. Oil started spilling out of the truck on the road and surrounding localities. Cleaner of the oil tanker was injured in the accident.

The officials of the local administration and police rushed to the spot and the patrolling police cordoned off the area.
