SOLAR PANELS

SOLAR PANELS: This is with reference to the letter ‘Solar panels’ (Jan 30). I strongly second the proposal that solar panel companies should consider reallocating a portion of their marketing budget towards installing free panels at government schools and hospitals. By investing in these crucial institutions, the companies can contribute significantly to society while also promoting their commitment to corporate social responsibility. With reduced or no financial burden related to electricity charges, public institutions would be able to allocate more resources to improving educational facilities and enhancing healthcare services for those who cannot afford them otherwise. The relevant companies should consider the proposition. It is an opportunity to create a lasting, positive impact by utilising resources for the greater good.

COLLEGE BUSES: The Government Degree College, Hoshab, in Balochistan provides buses to students living in the western parts of the region, leaving everybody else without such a critical facility. Students from Bidrang, Bal, Tunk, Parkotag, Kolowah and other villages that are significantly farther from the college continue to suffer. They have to walk 15-20km every day. The authorities should arrange buses for these students to ensure the provision of equal opportunities for all.

BLACK MAGIC: My family recently experienced a troubling incident at the hands of practitioners of black magic. This made me realise the absence of any legal framework in the country to penalise such practices. Nearly four years ago, a legislator had introduced a bill in the assembly to amend both the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) with the aim of penalising such practices. The bill was referred to the relevant committee on Feb 6, 2020, but it was rejected after a couple of sittings. I hope the new parliament would enact due legislation in this regard.
