Arts Council Alumni Festival concludes

KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan held its three-day first Alumni Festival to coincide with its first convocation on Friday. The event contained a variety of art-related activities.

On the first day a play, titled The Police, directed by Zeeshan Haider was staged. Haider is head of the council’s theatre department.

The second day began with the opening of an exhibition of artworks made by the council’s students. It was inaugurated by writer and painter Anwar Maqsood. Speaking on the occasion he said he was very impressed with the works on display. The students, however, should not hurry in selling their exhibits; they should collect them because with the passage of time the youngsters progress far ahead, he added.

The president of the council and caretaker Information Minister Ahmed Shah lauded the role that the council’s faculty has played in training the students.

A concert featuring young musicians of the institute topped off by a performance by renowned vocalist Shafqat Amanat Ali was the last item on the second day.

The third day had dance performances and a musical gig in which popular Sufi rock singer Ali Azmat entertained the audience.
