MARDAN: Four women candidates are contesting elections for general seats in eight provincial assembly constituencies of Mardan district.

As per data provided by the local officials of Election Commission of Pakistan, at least 105 aspirants including four women candidates are in the field to face each in the upcoming general elections, scheduled for February 8.

The woman contender, Laila Zaman, has submitted her nomination paper as independent candidate for PK-54 constituency. A total 11 candidates are in the run for the said seat of provincial assembly in the district. Similarly, a female aspirant Lubna Faheem is trying her luck in PK-55 constituency where 19 other candidates are also in the run.

Aneela Shehzad, who is contesting elections on the ticket of Pakistan Peoples Party in PK-56 constituency, is the third female aspirant in the district for the upcoming elections. She is facing 10 other political rivals in the said constituency.

The fourth woman candidate in the district is Ambareen alias Hina. She is contesting election on the ticket of Tehreek-i-Labaik Pakistan in PK-57 constituency. The total of candidates is 13 in this constituency.

It is also pertinent to mention here that the number of total registered voters is 1,538,078 in eight provincial assembly seats of the district and 841,696 of them are men and 696,382 are women.

The officials concerned have set up 353 male and 319 female polling stations in the district for the upcoming polls.
