Two suspects held in doctor’s murder case
GUJRAT: Police claimed on Saturday to have arrested the suspects involved in the blind murder case of a doctor.
Dr Zeeshan Anwar, a medical practitioner and assistant professor at the Kharian Combined Military Hospital’s medical college, was shot dead near Servis Mor Stop along the old GT Road early in the morning on Nov 11 last.
A murder case was lodged with the Civil Lines police station against unidentified suspects on the report of a cousin of the doctor.
Gujrat police spokesman said District Police Officer Asad Muzaffar constituted a team under SP Investigation Riaz Naaz and City circle DSP Asad Ishaq to trace and arrest the suspects.
He said the police team took all measures to trace the suspects through geofencing and footage of the security cameras after they fled towards the River Chenab.
He said the police interrogated some 20 suspects in connection with the incident and finally took Arfan of Gujranwala and Ghulam Abbas of Lahore into custody as they confessed to killing Dr Zeeshan.
The suspects revealed that they had been staying at the house of a kin in Changar Colony along Shadiwal Road, when they spotted a car at a deserted place along GT Road early morning. They said they tried to loot the car riders and opened fire on resistance resulting in the death of a doctor.
The suspects said they had also snatched a motorbike near Gakhar Mandi town of Gujranwala while fleeing after the Gujrat incident. The police claimed the suspects had already a criminal record in Lahore and Gujranwala.
The police said they had recovered the weapon and the motorbike used in the incident and further investigation was underway.
It is pertinent to mention that the local medical fraternity had staged protest demonstrations as well as a week-long sit-in camp in front of the district government complex against the murder of their colleague.
