TOBA TEK SINGH: The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF), organised a gur and cultural mela, showcasing various aspects of rural life, gur-based dishes, and traditional foods.

The event, inaugurated by UAF VC Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, attracted visitors.

He said the UAF is the custodian of rich traditions and agricultural development, highlighting the organisation’s efforts in conducting over 600 training workshops and farmers’ meetings last year to enhance the capacity of farmers and students.

SPORTS: District and Sessions Judge Javedul Hasan Chishti and Vice-Chancellor of the Government College University of Faisalabad (GCUF) Prof Dr Nasir Amin inaugurated the Table Tennis Youth Sports League under the Prime Minister’s Youth Talent Hunt programme at the GCUF on Thursday.

The event featured boys’ teams from five regions participating. The final winning teams will have the opportunity to represent the country internationally on behalf of the Higher Education Commission.

Sports Director Zeeshan Ahmed Khan expressed gratitude to HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed and HEC Director Javed Memon for choosing the GCUF to host the talent hunt programme.

ACCIDENT: A girl student from a private school was killed and her brother wounded in Jhang in fog-related accident on Thursday.

Siblings Zulqurnain (14) and Farwa Batool (15) were en route to school when their motorcycle slipped near a railway level crossing on Faisalabad Road. In an attempt to avoid a collision with a rickshaw, they fell on the road, and an earth-laden tractor-trolley ran them over.

Farwa died instantly, while her brother was rushed to the DHQ hospital. Also, in Gojra, a head-on collision between a truck and a coaster van resulted in critical injuries to both drivers and minor injuries to a dozen passengers.

CASE SOLVED: The Faisalabad police solved the blind murder case of Imran from Tandlianwala, which occurred two and a half years ago. Four robbers involved in the murder and numerous dacoities were arrested.

Investigation SSP retired Capt Muhammad Ajmal told a press conference that the gang had shot Imran dead over resistance. Imran of Sahiwal and Nasir, Nadeem, and Kashif of Faisalabad were also responsible for injuring two more citizens during resistance. The police recovered looted booty worth more than Rs800,000 from them.

In a separate incident, the Pirmahal police arrested nine members of a robbers gang involved in multiple robberies and thefts, recovering stolen goods worth more than Rs5 million from them. The arrested people were identified as Ramzan, Kashif, Aneeq, Waseem, Sadari Ahmad, Imran, Farman, Arshad, and Usama.
