Police told to enhance checking for drugs
RAWALPINDI: Police have issued a warning to transporters that strict legal action will be taken against them if any evidence of drug trafficking was found through the transportation of commodities.
Additionally, the station house officers (SHOs) have also been warned that departmental action will be initiated against them if any reports concerning sale of narcotics in their respective areas were received.
The directive was issued by the regional police officer (RPO) and the city police officer (CPO) to all the station house officers (SHOs) of the district.
The police officers have also been directed to hold meetings with the owners and managers of goods transport companies and also conduct checking in their terminals.
Senior police officers suspect that drug trafficking is possible through parcels; therefore, checking of postal and other offices of parcel transportation was imperative.
The police have also been directed to conduct a fresh survey of those involved in drug trafficking and peddling in the past and initiate legal action against them. Strict checking and search should be carried out at exit and entry points of the city.
Earlier, Supreme Court of Pakistan had asked the government to consider amending Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and police rules for using video recordings and photographs as evidence in trials of narcotics cases.
