20 camels die of mysterious disease

DERA GHAZI KHAN: An unidentified fatal disease has been spreading among the camels in Gharibabad and Chak Dilbar villages of Rojhan Mazari tehsil of Rajanpur district, claiming lives of 20 animals in a month.

According to camel herders of the area, due to this disease their animals first stop eating, become emaciated, start sitting on the ground and then die within a week.

Herders locally call this disease ‘Sokra’ which has claimed life of around 20 camels within a month.

They say that around 45 more camels are affected by this disease.

The residents of these villages demand the livestock department to take immediate notice of disease and send teams to the area on an emergency basis fordiagnosis of the disease and treatment of sick camels to save herders from further loss of animals.
