Two clerks fired for being cause of cop’s suicide

LARKANA: Two clerks, who were found by a departmental inquiry to be guilty of sitting on retirement case of late police constable Mohammad Yaqoob Dayo, were dismissed from service on Wednesday for indirectly contributing to the death of the police official.

Dayo locked himself up in the washroom of the police station and attempted self-immolation. His colleagues broke open the door to rescue him and shifted him to Chandka Medical College Hospital with 70 per cent burns. The late policeman had told reporters at the hospital that he had tried to take his life in utter desperation over undue delay in the processing of his application for early retirement.

He was later taken to Karachi Civil Hospital after his condition deteriorated and died there on Oct 29.

On Wednesday, Larkana Deputy Inspector General of Police Javed Soonharo Jiskani directed SSPs of Shikarpur and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts to dismiss Mohammad Nawaz Magsi and Muhsin Ali Solangi, members of ministerial staff, in the light of the findings of the inquiry report on Dayo’s suicide.

Subsequently, the SSPs removed the two clerks, who were posted in the sheet and pension branches at Larkana SSP office when the incident took place, said police sources.

DSP (compliant cell) Ghulam Murtaza Abbasi had submitted the probe report to the DIG with recommendation for further action, said spokesman for the DIG range office.
