Kohat nanbais shut tandoors in protest against crackdown

KOHAT: The nanbais on Friday shut tandoors in protest against the administration’s crackdown on them to bring down roti price. The nanbais said they couldn’t sell 130-gram roti at Rs20 due to costly electricity, gas and inflation.

The nanbais shut the ovens after talks between the administration officials and president of their association Laal Mohammad broke down on Thursday.

However, nanbais in the Old Bus Stand area were selling roti at the old rate of Rs20, saying they were still making a profit following a drop in 80kg flour bag to Rs12,000 from Rs14,200.

Meanwhile, the police arrested a man with 5.7 kilogrammes of hashish and 591 grams of ice drug on the Indus Highway on Friday. DSP Yousuf Jan and SHO Shah Doran of Riaz Shaheed police station foiled the drug smuggling attempt during search of a man, Hashim alias Shino.

Similarly, the police arrested a swindler, Obaid of Mianwali district and seized fake currency notes of Rs49,000 from him.

Separately, the Riaz Mohammad Shaheed police arrested two auto thieves and recovered a stolen vehicle from their house in Merozai area on Friday. The vehicle had been taken away from the College Town.

The auto thieves were identified as Nauman and Rehman.
