Justice Irfan Saadat Khan becomes acting SHC CJ

KARACHI: President Arif Alvi on Saturday appointed senior puisne judge of the Sindh High Court Justice Irfan Saadat Khan as the acting chief justice of the high court as incumbent CJ Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh is set to hang up his robes on Monday (tomorrow).

Justice Khan will run the affairs of SHC until the appointment of a regular chief justice by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.

According to a notification issued by the ministry of law and justice on Saturday, β€œIn exercise of powers conferred under Article 196 of the Constitution, the President of Pakistan is pleased to appoint Justice Irfan Saadat Khan as acting chief justice of SHC with effect from the date he makes oath of his office till the appointment of a regular chief justice by the JCP.”

Justice Shaikh had served as the SHC chief justice for more than six year. He was elevated as a judge of the SHC in September 2009. Later, he became the chief justice in March 2017.
