THATTA: Former Senator of Pakistan Peoples Party, Sassui Palijo, has opposed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s

proposal for abolishing a provincial seat of the district comprising Mirpur Sakro, Gharo, Gujjo and other coastal areas.

She complained in a letter to the ECP that the authorities concerned were in such a haste during digital census held this year that they did not care to count the people who had migrated from the district’s coastal areas following heavy rains and flood last year.

She told this correspondent on Monday that census committee and the authorities were informed about the temporary migration of the population but they disregarded it. Neither she nor people of Thatta would accept the ECP proposal, she said.

Ms Palijo said that she had already expressed her reservations over the recently concluded census, which had shown drastic reduction in the population of the district, and led the ECP to consider reducing one provincial assembly seat of the district.
