Water concerns

THIS refers to the letter ‘Dried taps’ (July 28), which highlighted the issue of water scarcity and blamed climatic and weather-related changes for being the root cause of the crisis. Taking the matter forward, I would like to broaden the debate a bit.

Apart from water shortage, we, in Lahore, have been facing frequent cases of water spillage on the roads for which I hold the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) responsible. Specifically, there are two such spots close to each other, and the third one is near the Wasa tube well located close to Mian Mir graveyard, where leakage has been persistent despite multiple repairs.

Frankly, this is a significant waste of precious drinking water, exacerbating water scarcity. Add to it the issue of sewage getting mixed with drinking water, and the matter gets worse. The authorities concerned should take immediate action and thoroughly investigate the matter.

Rectifying these problems is of utmost importance to ensure a constant supply of drinking water to the residents and prevent any further contamination posing serious health risks. Water is a basic necessity and a basic right. Therefore, the authorities must ensure ts proper management and distribution.
