Scenes from mourning processions as Muslims observe Yaum-i-Ashura

Shia communities across the Muslim world observed Yaum-i-Ashura on Saturday, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain in the battle of Karbala.

Yaum-i-Ashura is observed every year on Muharram 10 with solemnity to pay homage to Imam Hussain and other martyrs of the Battle of Karbala that took place in 61 A.H. in modern-day Southern Iraq.

Processions were taken out across Pakistan and in several other Muslim countries on the occasion, with participants clad in black clothes to signify mourning.
