RAWALPINDI: Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital has become a member of the World Association of Eye Hospitals (WAEH), a worldwide network of eye hospitals.

Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital has achieved the honour of becoming the only eye hospital in Pakistan that is a part of WAEH.

The credit for this milestone goes to the leadership and the dedicated team of healthcare staff committed to serving the community, said retired Maj-Gen Rehmat Khan, President of Al-Shifa Trust while talking to mediapersons.

He further added that the remarkable recognition was evident of the team’s dedication and expertise to serve humanity. He vowed to continue to strive for excellence.

While giving brief history of the hospital, he said that Al-Shifa Trust was established in 1985 and is a non-governmental, non-political, charitable organisation.

The board of trustees comprises retired servicemen, businessmen, bureaucrats, and professionals. He said the aims and objectives of the trust were to prevent and control blindness by providing standard and sustainable eye care services that are accessible and affordable.

The hospital focuses on human resource development through the training of doctors, nurses and paramedics.

With regard to WAEH, he said the body facilitates and promotes the exchange of knowledge between eye hospitals worldwide and facilitates people. The association has its focus on exchanging best practices in the planning, organisation, and delivery of eye care services throughout the world.

Furthermore, the global umbrella body for regional associations of eye hospitals is focused on delivering the highest quality and safest ophthalmic care.

It shares all kinds of information and knowledge in a very open and transparent way, via teleconferences, personal meetings and exchanges.
