Governor lays foundation stone of new City Council building

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori on Thursday laid the foundation stone of KMC’s new City Council building at Bagh Karachi, located along the main Rashid Minhas Road, in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Along with Karachi Administrator Dr Syed Saifur Rahman, the governor unveiled a plaque and laid the foundation stone at a ceremony attended by a number of people.

Addressing the ceremony, Governor Tessori said: “After a lot of struggle, Bagh Karachi (formerly Aladin Park) has now been cleared of encroachments. Now a development project is under way at the site with the cooperation of the Asian Development Bank.”

Administrator Dr Rehman said that the existing City Council building had been renovated in different periods, but now the 309-seat hall had become insufficient for the incoming 367-member council and, therefore, it was necessary to make a new council hall.

“The new building of City Council will cover an area of 12 acres, with a council hall and offices of mayor, deputy mayor, leader of the opposition and chairmen of various committees, besides a cafeteria and parking lot for members, staff and visitors,” he added.
