ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reciprocated the hope that dialogue between India and Pakistan would start soon so that the question of the repatriation of the prisoners of war and other outstanding humanitarian issues can be resolved without further delay.

This was stated here today [June 2] by an official spokesman when asked to comment on a statement given by the Indian External Affairs Minister, Sardar Swaran Singh, in Prague. … Singh, according to foreign news agencies’ reports, had expressed the hope that discussions would be started soon on the implementation of the India-Bangladesh declaration on the return of the war prisoners and civilians to Pakistan. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Teheran,] an American officer, belonging to the US military advisory mission in Teheran, was shot dead by two unidentified men today [June 2], a Government spokesman said. The officer … was shot outside his house in a northern suburb of Teheran. … The last anti-American action here was on May 31 last year during US President Richard Nixon’s two-day official visit. A bomb exploded near the Holy Shrine, south Teheran, shortly before President Nixon was due to arrive there.
