From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1948: Seventy-five years ago: Kalat affairs

(EDITORIAL) Kalat’s existing state of affairs … warrants watchful observation by the Pakistan Government. [T]here are elements in the administration who cannot be called entirely dependable… . While the accession of Kalat to Pakistan has solved the basic question as to the status of that territory, it has left untouched other matters that would need to be straightened out in the interest of … good government in that state.

…The Kalat National Party, a coterie of discredited political workers, known for its close association with the Indian Congress in the past and for its more recent opposition to accession, has found favourable conditions for the continuance of its activities. [T]hese elements … have started peddling anti-nonmulki slogans calculated to rouse the feelings of Kalat’s residents against Pathans and Makranis. … Facts relating to the mysterious disappearance of the Khan’s brother, Abdul Karim Khan, accompanied by a large number of armed anti-Pakistan followers, have not yet been brought to light though knowledgeable sources claim it could not have been possible without some official knowledge.
