ATC allows identification parade of woman, daughter

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday allowed the police to shift a mother and her daughter to Camp Jail for their identification parade in the case of attacking the Jinnah House, residence of the Lahore corps commander, during the May 9 violent protests by PTI workers.

Police presented Ayesha Masood and her daughter Maha Masood before the court with covered faces.

A police official claimed the faces of the women were covered on their own request as they did not want to be filmed by the media. The investigating officer of the Sarwar Road police requested the court to allow shifting of the women for their identification parade.

Judge Abher Gul Khan accepted the police request and sent the women on seven-day judicial remand for the process of their identification parade.

SEARCH WARRANTS: An ATC on Tuesday directed the police to seek fresh search warrants, if needed, for the Zaman Park residence of former premier Imran Khan as the previous ones stood expired, irrespective of their execution.

Judge Abher Gul Khan had taken up an application of Imran Khan, seeking cancellation of the warrants for the search of his house in Lahore, issued by the court on May 18.

Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider, DIG Operations Sadiq Ali Dogar and other officials appeared before the court.

The police officer told the court that the search warrants had not been executed so far. However, the judge observed that the search warrants were not meant for an indefinite period.

The judge observed that the police could approach the court again as the previous search warrants stood expired.

BAIL PLEA: An ATC issued notices to the police and the prosecution on a petition of PTI Senator Ijaz Chaudhry for his post-arrest bail in a case of attacking Askari Tower, Liberty Chowk.

Judge Ijaz Ahmad Buttar heard the petition and sought replies from the prosecution and police by June 2.

The PTI senator had been sent to jail on judicial remand.
